Owls: Sounds, Info and Dramatic Play

Today in our owl studies we listened to all different types of owl calls. Caleb's favorite the Barn Owl and the Eastern Screech Owl. Neither of which we have around Colorado. And none of which make your typical owl noises. Warning, if you click on these links beware of some quite erie sounding owl noises.

We do have lots of Great Horned Owls, which make your typically thought of owl noises. Much better than the incredible screeching noises of the owls above.

Next, we read about some general info on the Elf Owl and Great Horned Owl. These were fun to compare and contrast. We looked at size, sound, diet, habitat, and coloring. These were very helpful sites in this endeavor:

And we ended our day with some dramatic play with Scorpio, Caleb' s Elf Owl, named after scorpions their favorite food.
