Misc Nature Walk Adventures

Spring is coming to an end and Summer is beginning here in Colorado. We have taken a few nature walks lately to see the changes in seasons.

Baby ducks and geese are growing up.

A goose feather, a great nature treasure no matter the season.

Here's our male Northern Flicker friend. He was in the tree where their nest is, but Caroline was a little too noisy for him to be comfortable going in.

The Cottonwood Tree fruit is splitting and their seeds are floating on the breeze.

The seeds are contained in cottony masses that make the ground look covered in soft snow.

Cottonwoods have very rough and deeply furrowed bark. Here are the kids "petting the bark."

Less than 1 week later all of the cotton and the seeds are gone. Just a few pieces clinging to a wet muddy stick are left.

Some beautiful green moss. The kiddos loved how soft it was. Once they are older I would love to study moss more in depth.

Our White Pelican and Double Crested Cormorants are back. They tend to come late Spring/early Summer.

Caleb even found some Black Walnut shells the squirrels had left from the Fall and Winter.

Caroline bagged them up to take home. Did you know Black Walnuts have the hardest shell of any nut? The kids love playing with them.
Hopefully we will get in some more nature walks before our Miss Charlotte comes. It will depend on how she is doing and how much mama is allowed to walk. But we will still be doing lots of outdoor playing. Bubbles are a big favorite right now.

Hope ya'll are enjoying the end of your Spring and ready for some Summer fun to start.
