CALEB IS 4 YEARS OLD
This week we started our Fall Leaves Unit. We have already completed a unit on Deciduous Trees, but both Caleb and I love leaves so much, we decided to focus on Fall leaves specifically this week.
PHONICS: Caleb sorted words into categories like vowel sound, beginning sound, etc.
He also played a game where I gave him two letters for a word and he switched out the vowels to make new words.
And he did a little pre writing practice in a dry erase book I had purchased at a local teaching store. We actually used this last year, but he still enjoys it. And my little guy can use all the writing practice he is willing to do.
After this week I can see that we need to step up the phonics quite a bit. He blasted through all of his lessons and did not miss a step. We use the Code series, so I will probably be able to skip some of the lessons and move ahead. As for the writing part though, slow and steady is our motto.COOKING: We will be participating in Simply Made Sundays. We made homemade playdough and did a really fun art project with it.

ART: Caleb cut Halloween shapes out of his homemade playdough. Then we cooked them and painted all of the shapes. I had to convince him they were not like cookies and it would be a very bad idea to eat them.
MATH: We mainly did review this week in math. Caleb wrote 6s on his dry erase board.
He created numbers 10-20 with magnetic numbers on a cookie sheet. We also use Singapore Math along with the hands on activities.
FALL LEAVES UNIT (SCIENCE and NATURE STUDY): We took all of our leaf rubbings we had made the past few weeks and created a leaf poster. Caleb glued the leaf rubbings to poster board and then told me what each specific leaf was so I could label them.

When we were home we laid out all of our Fall leaf finds and created Leaf Men, Leaf Monsters and Leaf Animals.

It is hard to see everything we made in this picture. But if you come back to our blog on Tuesday, you will be able to see lots more about these little leaf creatures, as well as even more Fall leaf fun. We participate in Kids Explore Nature (Tree Hugging Tots).

I also have a blogger question. You probably noticed how some of the writing above has lines under it. How do I make that go away? Why does it happen in the first place? Help! I thought if I posted the question here I would get lots of feedback. Thank you in advance!

You did so much fun things this week. That sounds like a great phonics program I will have to check it out.
As for your blog question...I would think if you go in to edit your post, if you highlight the underlined sections, then look up at the top of your post area there should be a button for underlining, click on that to undeslect that option. Hope this helps!
I like how you gave him two consonants and swap the vowels in and out. Will have to try that.
Loved the leaf rubbings.
We are also going to have to speed up the Go for the Code as well, as she knows many of the letters already. She just needs to be able to write them - that's what we are aiming for.
What a great week! It looks like we are reading a lot of the same books, but Anna didn't like Why the Leaves Change Color at all - I guess it was too technical for her. We did a Leaf Man StArt a couple of weeks ago, but I love what Caleb did - what a difference one year makes :)
