Preschool Corner: Moon Unit Week 2

Caleb is Currently 4 Years Old

This week was a little more hectic than normal. But we did manage to have two days of Tot School and three days of Preschool. If you are thinking it seems crazy to cram all that in. Well, it actually helps to try and have a little bit of normal in an otherwise crazy week.

Math: Caleb continues to count higher as we go. He has 1 - 20 down pat, so now we are moving on to 1- 30. Here he is using his pointer to count aloud for me. The pointer was one of those ridiculously priced items at the check out that Caleb saw and had to have. Normally the answer is no. What a mean mom am I =). But I am so glad I caved on this one, because he uses it every time we do school. He loves it!

Caleb also worked on his Melissa and Doug Pets Cube Puzzle.

Bible: We read the story of the Battle of Jericho in his story Bible and then he reenacted it with his blocks and some of his sister's Little People. He also watched Veggie Tale's Josh and The Big Wall.

More Math: Caleb continued practicing writing his numbers. This week we worked on the number 4. Below he is tracing over some 4s I wrote in glitter glue.

Caleb reviewed 2s and 3s this week as well.

I found a kit of tangrams I believe they're called at the Ross. Caleb is doing the rocket ship, it goes along with our Moon Unit.

Moon Unit (Science)/Art: We made an awesome craft on the phases of the moon. First we painted all of the phases with sponges or yarn dipped in paint. What fun! Then Caleb put sticker stars on black paper and glued each phase onto that. Next we worked on putting the phases of the moon in order. This craft took a couple days to complete (the paint had to dry), but Caleb really had a good time with it.

We also made a Moon Cake. I blogged about that here. And this is not a cake that just looks like the moon. As you are making it you are actually learning what the moon is like with each different step in the recipe.

Phonics: We continued along with our Explode the Code lessons and Bob books. This week we were a little heavier on math since last week we had done more with phonics. But no matter what, we always read TONS of books. I mean really, books cover every subject. And I love the snuggle time!
We are not the only ones loving our preschool time together. Head on over to Homeschool Creations and check out what other families are up to.

Wish you'd posted about your moon phase craft 3 weeks ago..... We just finished studying about the moon a couple of weeks ago, and that would of been fun to do.
