One of the blogs I read, Homeschool Creations, hosts Preschool Corner each week. It is a blog carnival where other homeschoolers can post what they have been up to with their preschoolers. I so enjoy seeing what everyone else has been doing that I decided to join in. Nature Study: We took a shape nature walk one evening after Daddy got home from work. Caleb knows his shapes, but it takes a creative eye to find them in nature. I'll post more about our walk in a later blog entry. We had lots of fun and it is harder to do than you would think.

Moon Unit (Science): We started our Moon Unit this week. We read lots of great books about what the moon is like and then we went on a moon rock hunt. Basically Caleb collected rocks from outside and then we came in and painted them with glow in the dark paint. Later that evening I hid them through out the house and we hunted for them with all the lights off. It was really cool to see all the rocks glowing in the dark.

Math: Right now we are focusing on number formation. Caleb has number recognition, counting aloud, numerical order and one to one correspondence down. But we have never worked on actually writing the numbers. This has been a challenging area for Caleb and Mama. Caleb does not enjoy writing with a pencil and really does not enjoy staying in the lines. So we have come to a compromise. Caleb will learn how to write his numbers, but he will do it in salt, finger paint, on dry erase boards, etc. We'll move on to pencil and paper when he is older. We have plenty of time and can take it nice and slow.

Arts/Crafts: Grandma got Caleb Dot A Dot for his birthday. We pulled them out and Caleb "dotted" a few pictures. We also talked about mixing primary colors to make new colors. This works so well with Dot A Dot because the paint only mixes on the paper, not in the container. Making green was Caleb's favorite.

Bible: We continued reading from our current story Bible, The Word and Song Bible and worked on our Bible memory verse, Psalm 34:13. We have also been doing devotionals during lunch or after dinner. We just started the book, Beginning With God.

That was our week. If you want to see what others are up to, head on over to Homeschool Creations and check it out.

I like your fun ideas for writing. We, too, use the "Code" series and love it! Love those dot paints--they are on my wish list:-).
I am so intrigued by your unit study. Great idea to have a moon rock hunt. I may use that this coming week with the letter M.
I love your nature shape walk! I would love to try that with my little ones. And your moon walk hunt is very creative as well! Great job!
I like your moon rock idea - I will definitely try it when my daughter is older and not afraid of the dark. Happy teaching!
