Nature Treasure Walk

FEBRUARY 12th

Caleb was quite antsy today, so we decided to head outside and enjoy a Nature Treasure Walk. This is one of Caleb's favorite things to do on a walk. We get to be outside, enjoy God's creations and collect "treasures" to take home and explore more in depth. Actually, it's one of my favorite things to do an a walk too!

Caleb found this very interesting stick with lots of little holes in it. He decided it was probably from little bugs who made their home in the tree, and then a woodpecker came and pecked them all out for lunch.

Caroline guards our bag of "nature treasures."

There were a couple little birds in this bush. I would have loved to get a closer look to identify them, but Caleb is not known for his quiet birding skills. Oh well, we're working on that.

After our walk was done we came home to learn about and play with our collected "treasures."

We found many different types of pine cones. Caleb has lots of fun playing with them and learning about all the different types.

We also measured all of our treasure. Math is actually quite fun when it involves the outdoors!

The last thing we did with our "nature treasures" was to make little nature people. This was actually Caleb's idea and I thought it was quite creative. He wanted to make people he knew. It was very interesting to see which items he choose for each different person.

Beau
I have no idea why these three rocks put this way is Beau. But, he was quite precise while creating him.

I've decided 3 year olds are much more creative than most anyone I know.
