NOVEMBER 12th
This week we started our Jacob and Esau unit. We have been working our way through the stories from the Old Testament, rowing some of the books from Before Five in a Row and also doing units on seasonal/holiday stuff. We have basic items that we cover no matter what unit or book we are doing and then we also incorporate things that Caleb is curious about. We always have lots of fun!
Below you see pictures of Caleb doing a shape sort. I gathered items from all over our house in a bag and Caleb sorted them into; square, rectangles, circles, triangels, ovals, etc.
Here we made "stew" like Jacob did in our Bible story. We talked about how foolish it was for Esau to sell his birthright for something like a bowl of stew. We also had to find craft supplies to make our stew with that were circles.

This unit was filled with lots of interesting discussions. We talked about lying and making choices (good and bad). And we talked about twins. Caleb had never heard of twins before. He was very interested about two babies in the belly at once and how they were alike in many ways, but also very different. I was surprised how interested in twins he was.
OCTOBER 13th
We continued on with our Jacob and Esau unit. Today we did a rectangle hunt and graphed how many rectangles Caleb found. We did this LOTS. He is big into "hunts." We have used this activity with many things with Caleb: colors, shapes, numbers, etc.
We made "dotty Ds." And talked about upper and lower case and the D's sound and words that begin with D. We have a little alphabet book that Caleb is creating that we add to on a regular basis.
Here Caleb is tracing circles. Then we counted all the circles he traced and he wrote the numbers 1-6 inside of the appropriate circle he traced.
