Homeschool Hodgepodge

DECEMBER 2nd-16th

As you can probably imagine the month of December is a busy month for us. But yes, we did manage to get some school accomplished. We pretty much did a hodgepodge of activities from the beginning to mid December. Then the rest of December we had lots of fun doing family activities, church activities and visiting with friends and family. And we haven't even had Christmas yet!

Caleb makes shapes from playdough and toothpicks.

Here you can see that Caleb has created a brand new shape. Wow, an inventor and a mathematician all at 3 years old! LOL

This is one of Caleb's favorite way to "do math." Dump truck takes orders for loads of blocks from green truck. He reads the number on the flash-card, counts out the correct number of blocks for the load, delivers the load to green truck and then counts the blocks again as green truck builds a tower from them.

Then of course no clean up would be complete without green truck crashing into all the towers.

DECEMBER 2nd-16th

A very large part of homeschool for us is reading. I read to Caleb, he "reads" to me, we talk about the pictures and what he thinks will happen, we talk about who wrote the book and why they might have written the story the way they did; well anyway you get the point. Books are well liked in this household. This month we have had a great time with our books and the books we checked out from the library.

Caleb and Mama read, The Night Before Christmas, illustrated by Mary Engelbreit. If you have not read this version you should. The pictures are beautiful and very detailed. We have as much fun looking at all the little creatures, decorations and details in the pages of this book as we do with the story itself. Caleb and I both highly recommend it.

This is a reindeer snack Caleb made that we found in his Big Backyard magazine. This month's magazine was about reindeer and other winter animals.

Here is the finished product.
